Lesson Plan
1. Content and Achievement Standards
• Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
a. sing independently, on pitch and in rhythm, with appropriate timbre, diction and posture while maintaining a steady tempo.
2. Class Goals and Objectives
• Strengthen students singing through meaningful participation in singing activities.
• Develop students’ sense of pitch and rhythmic awareness.
• Reinforce the concept of steady beat.
• Teach students the concept of dynamics.
3. Materials
• “All Night, All day”
4. Procedures
• Student will discuss what things in life make us at peace and relaxed.
• Students will keep a steady beat as they listen to the instructor model the tune “All Night, All day”
• Students will echo the song “All Night, All day” in small segments as modeled by the instructor in an effort to learn the song by rote.
• Students and instructor will sing “All Night, All day” together once the students have learned the entire song.
• The students will discuss what’s different about the song after the instructor sings the louder than normal.
• The students will listen as the instructor will lead a discussion on different Dynamics and some Dynamic Names.
• The students will participate as the instructor breaks the class into 3 groups. Each group of students will sing a song in one dynamic
• The class will then give their input on which dynamic the group was singing.
5. Assessment of Goals and Objectives
• Assessment will be informal and achieved by monitoring the class as they decide what Dynamics groups are singing to check for knowledge of basic dynamics.
6. Follow up Lessons
• Future lessons will focus on modifying dynamics during the song though use of Crescendos and Decrescendos.
